Handpoked tattoos heal faster than machine done tattoos as they cause less trauma to the skin. Healing time can be anywhere from three days to around a week depending on what you get done! (Ex.: a small tattoo with minimal shading will heal in a few days but a larger tattoo with heavier shading can take a week) 

 

1. After your tattoo is done, you’ll be leaving with either Recovery Derm (sticker wrap) or no wrap at all! If you have Recovery Derm you will leave it on for up to three days max but can take it off when you get home or the next day! Since handpoked tattoos cause less trauma to the skin and heal a bit faster, Recovery Derm isn’t essential and whether you go the full three days or not is up to you! 

 

1. To remove the Recovery Derm, I’d recommend doing so in the shower or under running water. It makes the process just a little bit easier and can be more gentle on your skin. When removing it, pull gently- do not rip it off like a bandaid! 

Once it’s removed, you will wash the tattoo with unscented antibacterial soap (Dial Gold is usually an easy to find, cheap option). Once it's clean, pat dry with a clean paper towel. 

You’ll repeat this process 2x a day for 2-3 days.

 

If you did not receive Recovery Derm for your tattoo, you will do the step above the day after your tattoo was done. 

 

1. After washing your new tattoo and drying it, you can start to moisturize! I recommend Lubriderm lotion or Toad & Turnip aftercare balm which you can find here or at Fox Den. You can moisturize 2x a day or more if your tattoo feels extra dry or itchy. For smaller tattoos, you can feel free to dry heal (use no moisturizer) if you feel that that’s right for your body! Handpokes, again, can heal very quickly and smoothly and you know your body best! 

 

 

Do not submerge in water for 1-2 weeks post getting tattooed. No swimming, baths, hot tubs, ocean, lake, etc. Avoid direct sunlight and use of sunscreen for this period of time as well.
